We are deep in the trenches with puppy training currently, and everything you research about puppy training talks about using high value food as a reward to emphasize good behavior. It's just making me realize how much we as humans also use high value food (mostly processed foods) as rewards.
Saturday soccer game, post game snack.
Good grade on a test, go out for ice cream.
I survived a rough day at work, I need a treat.
Clean out your closet, I deserve a sweet treat.
I lost 20 pounds, I get a cheat day.
On and on and on.
We see it so much with kids but that only translates into adulthood. I spent my entire life "rewarding" myself with food, so much so it was literally killing me. How many times did I lose 20 pounds and "reward" myself with a cheat day (only to then gain it all back).
Breaking those habits takes a long time. We have to find new ways to cope and non-food related things to motivate us.
Is this something you have ever struggled with? What are some ways you can "reward" yourself for goals accomplished that aren't leading you to making unhealthy decisions?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Sunday. Headed to Fogo de Chao today for a little birthday lunch today after church. We sign up for their emails so they sent a $25 off coupon for my birthday.
This afternoon I am "meal prepping" for Angus, I mix up a big batch of meats for his meals for the week. Are you doing any meal prep today? What are your plans today?

As I’ve said many times, I struggle with meeting my protein goals daily. Some of this has to do with a medication I am on for my T2D. I needed to find a way to add in more protein on days that I don’t feel like eating. I’m pretty picky about flavors and textures of most protein drinks/mixes that I’ve tried. I found a brand that had flavors that sounded good, but didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on something that I might not like. They finally came out with a sample pack! I’m excited to try one in the next few days! I will post a review after.
Happy Saturday!! We have a new member @michelle1215 that joined this week and is starting Carnivore today. She made a post yesterday asking for tips for getting started, I pinned it to the top so you can share some advice and give her some encouragement.
In addition to those tips, are there any specific podcast episodes or YouTube videos you can link below that were helpful for you in getting started?
Michelle you got this, we are rooting for you! 💪🏼💪🏼
