Happy Tuesday evening!
We spent the day at the farm show w/out 5 yo who didn't feel well. Which was probably good as it was windy, cold, rainy. We figured we walked 3+ miles. So lots of fresh air and exercise.
We ate breakfast on the way (location is an hour away from our house.) They had a Chicken Club Protein Bowl, so I had that. The "cheese" was plastic american cheese and it had tomatoes on it; but otherwise it was just eggs, bacon and chicken breast. I also had about 1/2 of my normal protein coffee on the drive.
We skipped lunch.
After some farm errands in that city, we came home to chore and go through all the swag we got. Caps, tee-shirts, flashlights, rain gauges, fly swatters, chip clips, pens and I seriously will never have to buy another note pad or sticky notepad, ever! And of course the nice grocery bags and 5 gallon buckets.
Then we took the grandkids swag in to them. Stickers, caps, corn hats, coloring pages, rubber bracelets, pencils.
Then we went to our Mexican restaurant for supper. I had 3 meat fajitas (no tortillas or rice or beans) and I did eat the sour cream with the meat. They gave me so much; I could not finish it, so there's lunch later this week.
It's time for a little reading and bed.
Photo of the corn hat. 😁
I don't typically love cooking with cast iron, despite the excellent results they can bring. It's messy and smells up the house. Add to that, the one we have is super old and not very good. We were recently gifted a really good one from Lancaster Cast Iron so today I decided to give it a try. We have a side burner on our Weber so I could do it outside. I sous vide a steak, then seared it in tallow on the new pan. Man it was incredible. What a difference it made from our old one. Super easy clean up too. Below is the pan, of course I forgot to take a picture of the steak haha.
Do you love using cast iron? What are some favorites you make in them?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Monday!! My grandfather turned 95 yesterday!! It's such an important reminder to take care of ourselves every day, fuel our bodies properly, and build muscles! The only way we get to be 95 and still strong and living independently is if we prioritize our health now!! I linked below the video I filled with my Grandpa 3 years ago when he was 92. ❤️
What is one non-negotiable thing you can focus on this week to help you improve your health to live to 100?
Good Morning Y'all!! I haven't posted in a few days because it's been so busy. My husband and I took our Grands to see the elk in Ponca and to a historical mill there on Saturday. Then Sunday was church and I gave my testimony at a recovery group meeting. The first time giving my testimony. I did great on my eating. According to my macros Saturday I didn't eat enough but I ate until I was full. Sunday I didn't eat much at all in preparation for me speaking Sunday night. I did eat eggs or dairy. So I call that success. Here's my stats. I'm pleased with them. Today I will eat more. Blessings!!
