One of the brains in the carnivore world I've always thought highly of is Amber O'Hearn. She's a legend and breaks down the science of stuff so well. Below is the text of a post she made on X regarding fat loss as it relates to common struggles folks in our world come across. Why we stall or have little to low progress. It's a lengthy quote. I have also attached her whole article on it to read in its entirety. Share your thoughts below. Curious if you think it helps identify any issues you may be having.
Obviously, a caloric deficit always corresponds to weight loss (independent of proportion of lean to fat mass lost), but the problem with CICO logic is that you can't guarantee a deficit simply by reducing calories compared to some period of maintenance.
It's not just that the metabolic rate adapts downward over time from chronic unmet energy needs, although that does happen and is a serious problem. It's that there are (somewhat modifiable) rate limits on lipolysis and fat oxidation. These rate limits are typically more severe in fat people, which is why they are fat.
So if a metabolically healthy person cuts his intake by say 500 calories, it may be a trivial happening that fat from his stores rushes in to fill the metabolic need. But for someone with difficulties releasing or burning fat, the result of this will be only some modest fat loss, accompanied by lack of adequate energy resulting in fatigue, brain fog, irritability, cold intolerance etc. If that weren't bad enough, it also tends to result in lean mass loss, because if fat burning is maxed out and there still isn't enough energy, the body will try to get calories elsewhere.
The only solution to this is to enhance actual fat oxidation. The beauty of enhancing fat oxidation is that it causes spontaneous fat loss, because it addresses the metabolic rate requirement, which in turn results in satiation—a deficit is created but only due to equal fat loss happening first.

Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well. I know some people in the group have had some recent tough news for themselves or family members. It really puts the day to day issues we face into perspective, and reminds me to just focus on doing the best I can to be as healthy as possible. To those who are having a hard time, we are all here for you and sending you some prayers and support. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just focus today on doing the best you can and remember that food isn't going to bring you the comfort you are looking for.
Here is a little video of Penelopes performance from her piano recital l last night, she's been taking lessons for about a year and a half. 🎹🤍🖤
*Livestream Monday night at 4pm pst/7pm est
Thinking about the year ahead can be overwhelming when it comes to goal setting. For some people, like me, short term goals can be much more motivating. Right now it's beast mode through the Meetup this Saturday. That said, I do still have long term goals for the year. Staying carnivore is just a given now as it's my life already so I have to dive a little deeper for me. I'd like to stay in the same weight range but lower my body fat a bit. Gain some muscle mass in short. Gym at least 4 times a week and beast mode at the same time is my recipe.
Steak video for interest. 🤪
Do you do better with short or long term goals?
So sorry guys, my 2 1/2 hour drive home from the cabin is turning into a 5+ hour drive home so I am not going to make it in time to Livestream tonight. I'll post the link for the Dr Berry Livestream for tomorrow when I know it. I'll catch up on posts here when I get home if you have any questions.
I just got home from 3 days in MI and ate perfect! There were temptations but I’m getting to the point that there are just always temptations and at some point I need to draw the line in the sand and just DO THIS. So I did.
Day 3 no coffee and no headaches.
I was craving “something” so finished off the bread cheese. 🤷🏼♀️
I made it. Another ED day shift at a bigger, busier hospital. My God I'm tired.
Meals today:
1. scrambled eggs with bacon and coffee with HWC.
2. Pork belly air fried, one burger patty.
3. 2 beef hot dogs/sausages and smoke pork with more fat than meat.
Now I am very ready for bed. Hope everyone had a good day and a better night 🌙 😘.
