Thanks for bearing with me as I heal from this surgery. Healing (much like weight loss) is often 2 steps forward one step back. I was feeling great Sunday but then starting back to work Monday was really rough and I had a couple hard days adjusting to that. But I had my follow up appointment yesterday and have hopefully gotten into a better routine with work.
One thing I noticed checking back in here is that a lot of people are doing eggs fasts or sardine fasts (or challenges etc). I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with those things, but if you are doing something like that I encourage you to take a big step back and ask yourself "WHY are you doing this?" A lot of times these types of challenges start out of a place of really good intentions, but it often isn't sustainable and unfortunately I see it end up actually causing people setbacks.
Usually the reason I see people wanting to do a challenge like this is looking for some type of quick weight loss. There isn't anything magic about only eating eggs or only eating sardines in terms of giving you weight loss. In reality, those things typically work because you're just cutting calories for that amount of time (which you could do with just eating less of any food). However, often when people go back to eating regular food they end up gaining back the weight that they lost from doing that challenge. Or worst case they're miserable doing the challenge and end up overeating or eating something off plan because they were pushing themselves too hard.
I love it when we can do things together as a group and I think there's something really motivating about lots of people working towards the same goal and there's a lot of accountability that can come with that...So a lot of positives. But I also just want to caution people who are trying to do something for a quick weight loss hack thinking that this is a shortcut to faster results.
Ask yourself how many times has something like that worked for us in the past? Did you keep that weight off? It's really hard for me to encourage you to just be patient and be consistent, but in reality, that's when we actually see long-term results and are able to keep things off is because we enjoy eating this way long-term and are able to stick to it.
Now if you are enjoying eating only sardines or eggs and that's a good way of you incorporating some fasting without doing true water fasting then I think that's great. But I don't want people to get caught up in the hype and try to do something thinking that it's a shortcut to quicker weight loss results...Because more often than not, I see it causing people setbacks.
Just some food for thought today, I hope you are having an amazing week. ❤️❤️
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Friday!! I am going to get a 90 min massage today for my birthday (my first one this long). Very exciting for the relaxation and to have all the knots worked out of my sore muscles. The rest of the weekend we don't have many plans other than church and just hanging out at home with Angus.
How is your week going? Are you anticipating any temptations this weekend? Think through all your encounters this weekend and create a plan (and a back up plan) for how you are going to handle them to stick to your health goals!
What are your plans for the weekend?
I've been dealing with a cold the past few days. It was pretty bad for a day or two, stuffy nose, cough and feeling drained. Two rough days and I'm almost back to 100 percent already. I can't remember the last time I was sick. Covid for sure in late 2020. Maybe a short sniffle cold every couple years since. Of course it's N=1 but I feel like the diet helps a lot. It doesn't mean we'll never get sick, but hopefully rare and quick when we do.
Do you find you're sick less often? Anyone get sick as soon as they stray?
Today is my 41st birthday 🎉
I mentioned this on Monday’s livestream, but I recently had a comprehensive blood panel done. The results came back last week, and my “biological age” is 27 🙌🏼
For fun, I’m sharing a couple photos of me when I was actually 27. The one in the pink dress is from when Chris took me out for my 27th birthday.
What’s wild is, I probably had a biological age of 41+ back then. Now I’m 41 and have the health of a 27-year-old 💪🏼
Feeling so blessed and grateful to be healthy, and to have a healthy family. Aging is a gift, and I don’t take it for granted. ❤️❤️❤️
