Happy 1/1/25
I have been thinking a lot this past week. I went into my scale app and went back 5 years. The same pattern happens every year the end of December I would weigh and I am guessing didn't like it and didn't weigh again until January or February. It is just interesting because I drop weight all year and by end of Dec gained a lot back then January/February start again. However I did notice something positive. Everytime I start again in Jan/Feb I was always lower than the year before. I am still down 30 lbs then I was this time last year. This is still been a great accomplishment even though I have gained I am still at my lowest. Starting at the weight I am now is freaking awesome to me. I am excited to get to goal this year. I know it will happen. I have no doubt. That is so exciting to me.
I found a notebook and I had no idea what was in it. It was the picture of some quotes. I feel like I wrote them down and never looked at them again. I am going to try to commit to reading them everyday as a reminder of what I am doing and why.
I got this prayer book as well and I figured I share the very first page. So many things I want to happen this year. However I know it takes patience and it is in his timing.

Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
We are headed off today (this afternoon when the kids get out of church camp) on our 11 day road trip. We are headed up to spend 5 days in Big Sky Montana but taking our time getting up there to see the sights along the way. I have food packed up for the drive but honestly it's been a VERY chaotic few days so I am not as prepared as I planned to be. Thankfully we can always stop at grocery stores etc along the way. Most of the hotels we are staying in have kitchens and then we will be at a house starting on Sunday for the week.
I will still try and post here daily but I might be around less (I'll check in on our longer stretches while Chris is driving). I have no doubt you all will continue to support and encourage each other while we are traveling. If anyone feels inspired to post some encouragement in the mornings as well that would be amazing!

One of the things that having a dog has made me realize is how much we use food not only for motivation, but for distraction, entertainment, etc. While Chris was gone yesterday I was on full Angus duty and I was trying to work at the same time. A couple of times I had meetings when he wasn't napping, and the easiest thing for me to do to entertain him was to give him something to chew on. It's hard to find entertainment for him that lasts very long that's not food. It just made me chuckle to realize how much I used to do that for myself.
We reward ourselves with food, we distract with food, comfort ourselves with food, entertain with food, and the list goes on and on. So much of my time before used to be spent on thinking about food, planning food, or dreaming of food...it was exhausting frankly.
Breaking that mindset has truly been the hardest part of this journey, and one that's likely never going to be fully healed. But once I started realizing WHY I was using food (other...
I feel like moving and cleaning should count for exercise. However, there is something to be said about a nice relaxing walk. I just started (after dinner) a 72hr fast. I find it is easier to fast during my cycle and honestly I have been enjoying a little too much cheese the last week as a stress eating tactic. I can feel it so much so I am taking the weekend to reset. My boys leave for a week long boyscout camp Sunday so there is a lot of packing and prepping snacks. Prepping snacks that will sit in a tote in 80° weather is always interesting. Alot of beef sticks and granola... whatever won't spoil and stink. Have a great finish to the week everyone!
