I don't typically love cooking with cast iron, despite the excellent results they can bring. It's messy and smells up the house. Add to that, the one we have is super old and not very good. We were recently gifted a really good one from Lancaster Cast Iron so today I decided to give it a try. We have a side burner on our Weber so I could do it outside. I sous vide a steak, then seared it in tallow on the new pan. Man it was incredible. What a difference it made from our old one. Super easy clean up too. Below is the pan, of course I forgot to take a picture of the steak haha.
Do you love using cast iron? What are some favorites you make in them?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Sometimes I just want a whole rotisserie chicken. Yesterday I grabbed an 8 piece baked from the deli at the local Safeway. It hit the spot and was a refreshing change from steaks, burger and chops. No clean up makes it even better. I've been leaning out a bit lately and this felt like it fit right into my goals as well.
What's your quick and easy low clean up options? Can you crush a rotisserie chicken in one sitting?
Good Evening Y'all!! I had a very long busy day. This morning I went to a recovery home and ministered then went and cleaned the churches bathrooms, the got an A1C tester from Walmart,(it's time for a 3 month test), then I went to Kroger to get a few things. Then here's where it gets interesting and I gotta know if anyone has ever experienced this. I'm walking through the store trying to find egg life wraps and salmon furkaki for the sushi bake I'm making for my family next week. As I'm walking down the aisle that has tortilla wraps on it I start to smell this disgusting odor. Y'all it was the wraps. It was Absolutely disgusting. I thought I was gonna get sick in the store. So has anyone else experienced anything like that? After the grocery store I came home and got ready to go minister at an extended stay hotel that our church ministers at one a month. Y'all I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to doing it next month. Here's my stats for today. I'm Day 36 no dairy and no ...
Happy Thursday! My meals today was 1 air fried beef rib (I cut in half to cook better) with 4 juicy eggs, breakfast bowl consisting of eggs, ground beef, grilled chicken, and tri tip (slow cooked all day in butter...it was a very small tri tip), a little bit of sour cream and salsa (home canned goodness). What a good way to use up some left overs. You don't think about how busy your day is with 3 kiddos untill you start working on your simple habits. Don't worry today's blocks will all be filled in before bed. Its only 4pm. I head James Clear say in a podcast (Atomic Habits author) he has a rule to never miss the same habit 2 days in a row. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my busiest days and I had to miss one...but I made sure it wasn't the same one twice! I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
