Happy Wednesday! Monday was Thanksgiving in Canada, so Happy Belated Thanksgiving to Veebs and all our other Canadian friends! 🦃🍗 We hope you had a wonderful Holiday spending time with friends and family.
For our American friends, how are you planning to spend our upcoming American Thanksgiving? Are you planning to be strict Carnivore, business as usual? Are you planning to be a bit more relaxed and maybe have some keto/low carb foods? Or just have carbs and all your same old traditional foods you usually have? No judgement, we all have to know what we can handle and what works for us. What's your plan?
I don't typically love cooking with cast iron, despite the excellent results they can bring. It's messy and smells up the house. Add to that, the one we have is super old and not very good. We were recently gifted a really good one from Lancaster Cast Iron so today I decided to give it a try. We have a side burner on our Weber so I could do it outside. I sous vide a steak, then seared it in tallow on the new pan. Man it was incredible. What a difference it made from our old one. Super easy clean up too. Below is the pan, of course I forgot to take a picture of the steak haha.
Do you love using cast iron? What are some favorites you make in them?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Good Morning Y'all!! I'm still doing great. Today is the start of day 14 without dary and eggs. Twice I ate some dairy mindlessly and when I realized what I was doing I quit. But I have learned some things in this last 13 days. I believe I feel better, my sleep is getting better, I have lost 5 pounds and one pant size. I haven't had coffee since Sunday because I think it bothers me. I'm pretty sure my body is getting rid of the things that dairy always hindered. My eyes aren't as matted up in the morning as they use to be. When I wash my face of the morning I don't have to extremely hot water to release the gunk on my eyelashes. I may continue to stay dairy free and egg free for 90 instead of just the month of October. I can do this. It's just different. I'm pleased with how it's going. I go to gym 5 days a week along with physical therapy 3 times a week. I'm walking on the treadmill, using the elliptical, and doing the leg machines. One of my goals is to work my way up to 15 minutes ...
We had a warm spell the last couple days and by the weekend we are supposed to have frost. I am always loved fall sunsets but the sunset tonight during the football game took the prize. Eating today was not the best....still carnivore just not clean carnivore and I can feel it. I think soy has more of a roll in my body then I want to admit. I am thinking of quitting coffee. I know I use it as a crutch, add too much butter into it, and it causes me not to exercise. Any tips?? I am thinking of going cold turkey and dealing with the withdrawals.
Happy Tuesday! Back to normal work for me today and no more travel for a few weeks. I am very excited just to be able to have a normal routine for a bit. I have been sleeping so much extra the past few days, I am sure partly jet lag but also just my body recovering from the lack of sleep I got last week.
I am mostly just excited to be able to eat at home for a while. We had several of my favorite meals this past weekend (skirt steak Saturday and steaks/Greek chicken Sunday). Yesterday we made some al pastor pork, and I am going to mix the leftovers with eggs for a meal today.
What are you eating today?
