Happy Saturday!! I am so excited to have a nice long weekend at home hanging out with the family. We mostly have no plans but I do need to film some YouTube videos. I am even more excited to eat at home for a few days, I am pretty used to eating out while I travel but nothing like a grilled steak from home!! Fun update here, Nathaniel got his braces off this week. He'll get them on again for another year in the future but he is finished with Phase 1.
What are your plans this weekend?
I don't typically love cooking with cast iron, despite the excellent results they can bring. It's messy and smells up the house. Add to that, the one we have is super old and not very good. We were recently gifted a really good one from Lancaster Cast Iron so today I decided to give it a try. We have a side burner on our Weber so I could do it outside. I sous vide a steak, then seared it in tallow on the new pan. Man it was incredible. What a difference it made from our old one. Super easy clean up too. Below is the pan, of course I forgot to take a picture of the steak haha.
Do you love using cast iron? What are some favorites you make in them?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Wednesday! One topic that came up on the Livestream Monday was talking about weight loss stalls. When people ask me how to break a stall my first question is "how long is your stall?" While it's frustrating to not lose weight for a week or 2 (or 3), that's not actually a stall. Our body is not designed to be consistently losing weight every single week, there are going to be ebbs and fluctuations based on hormones etc. I would consider a stall anything more than 6+ weeks. Even at that point I always discourage people from doing crazy tactics or protocols to try and get weight loss moving again.
After a month or so of no weight loss I just encourage you to make small tweaks to what you are currently doing to try and help boost weight loss. We talked about adjustments you can make in more detail on the Livestream, but it's things like cutting dairy, adding exercise, simplifying your meals, analyzing calories etc. Most importantly you need to be patient and just stay consistent....

Happy Tuesday! I was scrolling FB a little last night and saw someone asking for a recommendation for a diabetes doctor that follows Dr Jason Fung protocol, I assumed it was a Carnivore group but then I was surprised to realize it was from my neighborhood group. Not many comments but mainly people saying they knew of Dr Fung, but unfortunately no doctors around here support that protocol. The guy who posted mentioned they get frustrated that doctors are just pushing meds and don't asking anything about diet (which is so true!!).
Do you have a doctor who supports your way of eating, or at least asks you about your diet or nutrition? Or is your doctor just very traditional in pushing statins and medications? Is your doctor scared of red meat?
