Caught up with a friend last night at the kids jiu jitsu class. He transports organs that are being donated so talked a lot about traumatic medical stuff. Brought back a lot of memories of my time in the hospital. Nearly dying from an infection indirectly caused by diabetes, yet being fed pizza and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Wild how the medical system is so backwards. Doctors and hospitals really bother me now and I want to stay away as much as possible. This is a battle because there is value there when appropriate and your life could be saved. Just wish they'd spare me the drug pushing and expensive run around.
Are you turned off to the medical system? How do you handle navigating that world through your updated filter?
Yesterday we surprised the kids and brought home a puppy!! They have been begging for one for years and we felt like the time was right to bring one home.
Meet Angus 🐕 He's a Golden Retriever/King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix. He's 11 weeks old and currently weighs about 8 pounds, he should be around 35 pounds fully grown. I know it will be an adjustment for a while as he gets potty trained etc but we are so excited. 😂 Wish us luck! 🤪
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Yesterday was a long day but it ended with a delicious dinner at Taste of Texas, which is a steakhouse here in Houston. They had a preset menu for our large group, but if you're not ordering off that preset menu they actually let you go into the back in the kitchen and pick out your own steak from the case.
Thankfully they had some bacon-wrapped quail for an appetizer, and I got to have a delicious 16 oz ribeye for my main course (I just skipped the sides it came with). Earlier in the day I had some electrolytes and my friend had brought a charcuterie board for us to eat during the training session. Great day with some delicious food!!
What are you eating today?
Happy Monday!! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I am starting four long days of teaching here in Houston. I am hoping to find time to get some walks in and maybe even hit up a workout class with my friend after work one day. While I have been more consistent with movement/exercise over the last year, it's not my 'non-negotiable'. I definitely try to focus on exercising daily, but I know that when I'm traveling or when things get crazy, sometimes it doesn't happen. I don't let that derail me and I still just focus on keeping my food dialed in and giving myself that daily win.
That's why having a non-negotiable is so important. We know not everything can go right every single day So what is that one simple thing that you can focus on that will help you stay on track and not derail all of your goals? What is your non-negotiable for this week?
Today was no good. I kinda had a rough mental health day.
First up was a thermography scan of all organs and then follow up meeting with the RN. It helped me see some things. Specifically, I need to be tested for Hashimotos, also never eat gluten again- easy on low carb or carnivore. Also some clogged Lymph nodes that we are doing a full cleanse for a month for. Thankful for my new FSA because that appointment was EXPENSIVE! I was happy to see the finding and relieved that it didn’t really show anything more than things I knew about with the exception of the hashimotos. My sister has it and I asked to be tested two years ago but my endocrinologist kinda ignored the info and “appeased me… only running T3/T4. I’m asking my regular PA to run the full panel and TPO. I’m more optimistic she will since she’s generally open to ordering any tests or scans.
Then I had a scheduled appointment with my counselor to work through some trauma/grief popping up from a few years ago. That ...
