Happy Monday!! How was your weekend? Thankfully I am off work for a couple more days, I decided semi-last minute to take a couple days off to just hang with the family. Today we are visiting a couple different landmarks in Northern Arizona and doing some hiking today.
I am doing a YouTube Livestream tomorrow night when we get back home. I will be talking about the upcoming 'Carnivore Made Simple' course by Dr. Eric Westman and Amy Berger, I am assisting as an Admin for the Facebook they have for anyone that buys the course. It's basically an online course with a series of videos and resources for anyone looking to get started on a Carnivore Diet. (I talked about it in more detail in the last Livestream I did here in Locals.) The course opens today, they are sending me a link later to share but I think code LAURA gets a discount on it. I'll also be doing some Q&A as well on the YouTube Livestream so it should be a good one for beginners in general. I will stream here in Locals later this week to kick off August.
What is your non-negotiable for this week?
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well. I know some people in the group have had some recent tough news for themselves or family members. It really puts the day to day issues we face into perspective, and reminds me to just focus on doing the best I can to be as healthy as possible. To those who are having a hard time, we are all here for you and sending you some prayers and support. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just focus today on doing the best you can and remember that food isn't going to bring you the comfort you are looking for.
Here is a little video of Penelopes performance from her piano recital l last night, she's been taking lessons for about a year and a half. 🎹🤍🖤
*Livestream Monday night at 4pm pst/7pm est
Happy Saturday, I am so excited for the weekend, even though it's a short one for me. I fly to Chicago tomorrow morning for the week for work, I have to be there first thing Monday morning. I planned this entire trip for our group so I got to pick the restaurants. 👍🏼
Today we are just having a family day, our new Saturday tradition of "tacos" for lunch. Skirt Steak like normal and making some shrimp also. And then it's been a long week for us all so we'll probably do a family movie night.
Any suggestions for a fun family movie?
What are you plans for the weekend?
I am feeling some profound sadness today. There have been so many violent tragic events over the last week, and then the horrific Charlie Kirk assassination yesterday. He was so young and had such young kids, it is so heartbreaking for them.
Today is also the anniversary of the tragic events on Sept 11th, which is another day of sadness and rememberce. None of this is "diet" related, but it is another reminder of why our health matters. Focus on quality time with your family and live your life each day to the fullest. 🙏🏼

It's been a wild few weeks for us with travel, being away from home base and the kids and I starting school. Laura is leaving town on business this coming week as well. I've finally got my eating back to routine but it will be a long week so it's a big test of my resolve. My goal is to not stress eat in the evenings. This is one of the last bad habits I'm working on. It's so easy to distract myself during the day by staying busy but when the kids go to bed and I sit down to watch a show or something, I get weak.
Any tips for this scenario? What are the toughest times for you and how do you manage it?
