Yesterday was officially the first day of summer. We broke records here and Arizona hit 117°F this week. Thankfully things are cooling back down but this rollercoaster from 105-115°F is pretty typical for our summer. We still do lots of grilling outside though, and Chris still goes for his evening walks outside, and I still go to the sauna. 😂😂 My first summer here it was so odd to brush your teeth with warm water (the tap water just doesn't get cold in the summer). I guess you just get used to it. Thankfully we have a pool but by this time of year the water is well over 90°F so it's more like a big bath.
How are things where you live? How are you staying cool this summer? Does the heat affect your appetite?
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well. I know some people in the group have had some recent tough news for themselves or family members. It really puts the day to day issues we face into perspective, and reminds me to just focus on doing the best I can to be as healthy as possible. To those who are having a hard time, we are all here for you and sending you some prayers and support. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just focus today on doing the best you can and remember that food isn't going to bring you the comfort you are looking for.
Here is a little video of Penelopes performance from her piano recital l last night, she's been taking lessons for about a year and a half. 🎹🤍🖤

Happy Sunday! Chris and I went out on a date night last night, to a comedy show of course. Chris loves going to concerts, but I definitely do not enjoy the crowds and loud noise and that type of thing. I mostly enjoy staying home or sometimes going to the theater, which is not Chris's ideal night out. 😂 But we both very much enjoy seeing comedy shows and that has been a bonding area for us. That is our favorite choice of something to do for a date night since neither of us eats dinner and we don't like to pay for steak in a restaurant.
This was a big shift for us, pre-carnivore we used to go out to new restaurants, find new dessert places, and Chris used to bake for me all the time if you can believe that. It took us a while to relearn how to spend an evening out together that wasn't centered around carbs. Pictures below are from last night (we are currently 40 and 50 years old), and the second picture is from 10 years ago (when we were 30 and 40 years old).
What are ...
And me again, this time with the newsy news for the day.
Happy Sunday Evening!
Yup, it's chilly, cold out. We had snow spits last night, just enough to show up in the air.
Today was on and off sunshine and blustery winds and cold. 2 sweatshirts, gloves and a stocking cap for chores.
A skim of ice on the water tanks. But 40s tomorrow and 60s the rest of the week.
Did I tell you all, he got the combine fixed and it's cleaned and in the shed for the winter. Farm bookwork is caught up to date! It took me all day yesterday but it's done. My house is dire but laundry is caught up, dishes done and he vacuumed this evening. The clobber will be taken care of during the week.
We did some Littles' Christmas shopping last night after Ddil let me know of the Target sale. Half of the big gifts purchased. This year I am only giving 4 per grand. 1 big gift, 1 small toy, 1 clothing, 1 book or educational item.
The Littles (or anyone under my roof at our Christmas celebration) gets a stocking but I don't send those to ...
