The most important part of achieving long-term success in weight loss and health is learning to be consistent. This advice isn't glamorous, and it's challenging to convince people that a slow and steady approach is the most effective. Living a healthy lifestyle essentially means waking up most days and doing all the little things that collectively keep you healthy. If a day doesn't go as planned, you simply start fresh the next day, returning to your baseline of healthy choices. We have to put blinders on to the trends/fads that get us off track just because they promise quicker results, but often less to bigger setbacks. Just keep focusing on those small habits and I promise it will be worth it.
What are some small daily habits or choices that you focus on to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well. I know some people in the group have had some recent tough news for themselves or family members. It really puts the day to day issues we face into perspective, and reminds me to just focus on doing the best I can to be as healthy as possible. To those who are having a hard time, we are all here for you and sending you some prayers and support. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just focus today on doing the best you can and remember that food isn't going to bring you the comfort you are looking for.
Here is a little video of Penelopes performance from her piano recital l last night, she's been taking lessons for about a year and a half. 🎹🤍🖤

Happy Sunday! I know this week ahead will be very chaotic for many people, I hope today that you can find some moments of peace and rest. We've been having a lot of great conversations with the kids this week focusing on the true meaning of Christmas. ✝️
I encourage you to take a few minutes today to rest and prepare your heart for the week ahead. Health is so much more than what we eat and getting in our steps. True healing comes from peace in our hearts. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
Happy Saturday!! My mom made it safely to Arizona last night and away from snowy/freezing Indiana. Chris and I are headed up to the cabin today for the weekend just the 2 of us, then we will have a couple weeks all home together with my Mom for Christmas. I am working Monday to wrap up some things for the year, but then taking almost 2 weeks off work for the holidays. I think in my 20 years working in corporate jobs I have never taken been off work for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Years. I am so excited about some time to just decompress and spend quality time with my family before a very busy January/February.
What are your plans for this weekend?
We have weather rolling in this week! I live in Capitola, California (Santa Cruz area) and love getting outside to walk (I really dislike treadmills). I've been doing really well walking 10k steps each day the last couple of weeks, but this morning, I woke to the sound of drops outside. I felt disappointed at the thought of not walking or of walking on my walking pad, so I decided to brave the weather and couldn't have been happier! I'm learning to listen to the inner child that loves adventure and isnt bothered by things like a little rain. Too often its my inner critic that tells me all the reasons I "shouldnt" do something I want to do. After walking for about 1 hour, meeting other brave souls along the walk, I am now dry and about to enjoy eggs over easy, sausage, and a hamburger patty with cheese before heading to church and to meet friends this afternoon. The picture is from the halfway point of my walk. 🙂
