Today is the anniversary of when my brother passed away. He was killed in a car accident when he was 13 and I was 11. I talked about this a little on my Livestream the other night but this is typically a weekend most of my life when I would just stay in bed all day and eat.
Grief is one of those things that no one can prepare you for. Every year is different, some years harder than others and those feelings certainly aren't linear. Learning to not numb that pain with food continues to be a very difficult part of my healing journey.
We usually try and do something special as a family, spend some time talking, I share memories with my kids about their Uncle Jonathan and who he was. I often imagine what he would have been like as an adult and the family he might have had. I find peace in knowing we will all be together again someday.
My Mom (Melissa) is in this group as well, send her some love and prayers today. When I became a parent I grieved on a whole other level at what she must have gone through (and still does).
Thinking of any of you that are dealing with pain and sadness this weekend as well. I'll see some of you later at the Meat-Up ❤️ Looking forward to it.
Cheese is good! I ate a block of chipotle oven baked cheese with lunch yesterday and it was divine. I love it, but know that it halts any progress I'm making, and will even trigger eating in excess to where I'll gain weight. It's sad but I have accepted it. If I eat it in small quantities with a meal, it's ok, but I really have to work to keep it in check.
What's your favorite cheese? How do you incorporate it? Do you see negative results when eating it?
Happy Sunday! Sharing a video today from our week, one of the highlights. This was Wednesday evening church, normally they have a more casual prayer meeting where someone plays the guitar, but they were doing some construction in the fellowship hall so they had their prayer meeting in the sanctuary. No one was there to play the piano so my my Grandma did it, she's been playing the piano in church for probably 80 years.
For context, she's 88, she had a really bad fall 5 years ago now and hit her head and ended up with a lot setbacks, similar to having a stroke. She has a lot of dementia like symptoms also (I am sure related to her Type 2 diabetes), she really can't read music anymore, and she has trouble seeing well, and she needs to wear hearing aids to hear but hates wearing them, so on this night she didn't want to wear them. My 93 (almost 94) year old grandpa takes care of both of them on their farm. Anyway, on this night she sat down on the piano and led worship as people called ...
Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well. I know some people in the group have had some recent tough news for themselves or family members. It really puts the day to day issues we face into perspective, and reminds me to just focus on doing the best I can to be as healthy as possible. To those who are having a hard time, we are all here for you and sending you some prayers and support. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Just focus today on doing the best you can and remember that food isn't going to bring you the comfort you are looking for.
Here is a little video of Penelopes performance from her piano recital l last night, she's been taking lessons for about a year and a half. 🎹🤍🖤
*Livestream Monday night at 4pm pst/7pm est
Daylight Savings Time is starting on tomorrow in the USA, that means every state, except Arizona, will change their clocks forward one hour tonight. That also means everyone gets one less hour of sleep tonight. Research shows it can take your body a whole week to fully adapt to that one hour time difference.
Even though Arizona doesn't change our clocks, my job is headquarters out of Texas so everyone works on Central time. So with Daylight savings time I now have to start my day an hour earlier every day. So I have meetings daily now at 630 and 7am. 😭😭 I am very much dreading this as I already go to bed pretty early (and we all know I need a lot of sleep!).
How are you feeling about the time change? Does it affect your life/schedule at all? What are some things you do to help reset your circadian rhythm?
Happy Friday! Thanks to everyone that hung out on the Livestream last night. If you need to hear a good motivational rant from me check out the replay. 😂😂 The next Livestream here in Locals will be Monday at 7pm EST/4pm PST. I know Mondays are better for more people, and since most of my travel is slowing down we can do Mondays for a bit again.
That being said, I am headed out on a quick 24 hour trip today. 😂 Then the rest of the weekend we will just hang out with my Mom before she flys home Monday.
What are your plans this weekend? Any temptations ahead you are worried about?
